New Principal Selection Process

New Masterman Principal Selection Process

UPDATE 8/9/2021

I am writing to provide you with an update regarding the principal selection process. As you all know, The School District of Philadelphia has created an engagement series that resulted in six events to provide the staff, families, community, and alumni opportunities to share their voices regarding the current and future state of Masterman School. These events provided the district with a wealth of information that helped us provide context as to what the school community sees as the strengths and areas for improvement. These details were then used to create a School Leadership Profile that is intended to guide the search for the next school leader.

This past week, we identified 14 participants to engage in the search for a new school leader. The Principal Selection Committee members are as follows:

Staff Members

–       Gilda Abney

–       Nichole Geiger

–       Carolyn Gray

–       Todd O’Neil

–       Chris Taranta

Community/Alumni

–       Saterria Kersey

–       Karen Yvette Simmons

–       Jackson Siu

Parents

–       Maria Beatty

–       Tulia Falletti

–       Maggie Li-Zhang

School District Leaders

–       Sean Conley, Assistant Superintendent, Acceleration Network

–       Ted Domers, Assistant Superintendent, Learning Network 1

–       Sara Metzger, Director, Recruitment and Selection

Students

We have also created a Student Panel of six members that will have an opportunity to interview and provide feedback on each candidate who is interviewed by the Principal Selection Committee.

The role of the committee is to use the information gathered from the six engagement events as a blueprint to guide the process in identifying the next leader of Masterman School.  Currently, the selection committee is busy preparing for upcoming interviews by identifying and creating interview questions that are aligned to the School Leadership Profile. We have created a very aggressive timeline to ensure that the next leader is identified as soon as possible. This timeline will require each member to give up a great deal of personal time over the next several weeks. Due to the sensitive nature of this work, and access to confidential information, each member of the committee is required to sign a confidentiality agreement that only allows discussion of this process with other members of the committee. I personally guarantee that we will run an efficient, fair, and transparent process. I also promise that I will communicate the progress that we are making in the search for the next principal of Masterman so the community is well aware of where we are in the process.

In the meantime, if you have any specific questions, please do not hesitate to reach out directly to Dr. Ted Domers or me, and we will respond to you in a timely manner.
